OUR STORY

Who We

Are

A joyful and diverse community, learning together to follow Jesus Christ in the heart of East Scarborough.

We are a joyful and diverse community who follow the Anglican tradition, learning together to follow Jesus Christ. We seek to foster our spiritual growth through the study of the word, prayer and the sharing of our faith. We believe in the Apostle’s Creed, the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Baptism.

Almost 200 Years in East Scarborough

St. Margaret in-the-Pines Anglican Church, located in east Scarborough for almost 200 years, has a long history of welcoming newcomers into the worship of God and of creating an environment in which all feel valued and heard. Read more about our History

We believe that Jesus is good news that makes a difference in our lives, connecting us to God so that we might love and serve one another, and our neighbours.

OUR MISSION

At St. Margaret we seek to deepen our relationship with Jesus through the study of the scriptures, prayer, praise and thanksgiving.

We seek to build relationships among the members of our parish community, the people in our neighbourhood and charitable organisations that serve them.

A SHARED NEIGHBOURHOOD

Presence in our Community

St. Margaret in-the-Pines is blessed with a wonderful location in the heart of a great community, and many important social and religious organisations are located in close proximity to our church. St. Margaret has had an important presence in the neighbourhood for almost 200 years and continues to provide space for community groups to meet.

St. Margaret’s Historical Chapel

The Historical Chapel is a small brick structure which was built in 1905 to replace the original wooden structure which was destroyed by fire. It still stands on the grounds of the St. Margaret’s Cemetery.

St. Margaret’s Parkette

At the front of the property is the St. Margaret’s Parkette, a lovely parkette dotted with evergreen trees. To learn more about St. Margaret’s Parkette contact Toronto Parks and Recreation.

St. Margaret’s Community Homes

Attached to the east side of our church, is the St. Margaret’s Community Homes which is administered by the City of Toronto.

St. Margaret’s Tamil Anglican Church

The Tamil Anglican congregation meets here every Sunday at 5:00 p.m., sharing our space and continuing our tradition of welcome.

The Pines Adult Day Centre

The Pines Adult Day Centre, a non-profit organisation that has served the community for over 20 years, providing a safe and enriching place for adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities, is located on site.

St. Margaret’s Cemetery

To the west of our church is the St. Margaret’s Cemetery. More can be learned on their website →

Land Acknowledgement

The land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Mississaugas of Scugog, Hiawatha and Alderville First Nations and the Métis Nation.

This territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.

The treaties that were signed for this particular parcel of land are collectively referred to as the Williams Treaties of 1923.
