Who we are
We are a joyful and diverse community in the Anglican tradition, deeply rooted in south-east Scarborough, learning together to follow Jesus Christ.
We believe that Jesus is good news that makes a difference in our lives, connecting us to God and to one another so that we might love and serve one another, and our neighbours.
Our Mission
At St. Margaret in-the-Pines we seek to be connected and renewed by God to respect and encourage each other to share our gifts with one another and with the community we seek to serve. We seek to centre ourselves in our baptism, biblical teaching, the Eucharist and prayer.
Our Presence in the Community
St. Margaret in-the-Pines is blessed with a wonderful location in the heart of a great community and many important social and religious organisations are located in close proximity to our church (see below). St. Margaret has had an important presence in the neighbourhood for almost 200 years and continues to provide space for community groups to meet.
- On-site is the Pines Adult Day Centre, a non-profit organisation that has served the community for over 10 years. The centre provides a safe and enriching place for adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. It has daily activities geared to the full spectrum of the individual’s needs and its activities teach a comprehensive set of skills that include literacy, mathematics, money handling, communication, sign language, arts, and crafts, as well as fitness and general recreation. Learn more by visiting the Pines Adult Day Centre site.
- St. Margaret’s Tamil Anglican Church meets here on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. More can be learned on their website.
- To our west is St. Margaret’s Cemetery. More can be learned on their website.
- On the eastside of our building are the St. Margaret’s Community Homes.
- And on our front doorstep is St. Margaret’s Parkette, a lovely parkette dotted with evergreen trees. You may learn more about St. Margaret’s Parkette on the website for Toronto Parks & Recreation.
We look forward to serving the needs of the area for many years to come.
Land Acknowledgement
The land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Mississaugas of Scugog, Hiawatha and Alderville First Nations and the Métis Nation.
This territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
The treaties that were signed for this particular parcel of land are collectively referred to as the Williams Treaties of 1923.
